JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – After fainting in a Johannesburg restaurant yesterday night, UEFA president Michel Platini was discharged from hospital earlier today.
Platini was reportedly dining with fellow Frenchman Gerard Houllier and former Scotland manager Alex Roxburgh in a restaurant on Friday night but eventually fainted and was sent to hospital by an ambulance. Test results show that he was given an all-clear sign – although the UEFA President has been suffering flu for the past few days.
FIFA and UEFA said in a joint statement: “Michel Platini, UEFA president, was released at 9am this morning from the hospital in Johannesburg where he was admitted last night after feeling unwell.
“All the medical tests conducted were normal and Mr Platini is looking forward to attending the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup tomorrow in Soccer City stadium.”
