Euro ‘08 Champions Spain defeated Chile to cruise through Group H with a 2-1 victory on Friday night and will play Portugal in their last 16 match.
Chile started off with a win while Spain lost to Switzerland 0-1 in a shocking match but the European Champions managed to get a victory in their last 2 games of the Group stage. Spain topped the group after the 2-1 win and Chile will now face another South American side & 5 time champions Brazil.
Barcelona striker David Villa put Spain into the lead with a goal in the 24th minute into an empty goal when goalkeeper Claudio Bravo rushed out of his team’s 6-yard box and Iniesta doubled the lead 13 minutes later.
Spain tried not to concede but in the end at the 47th minute, Rodrigo Miller scored a goal for the Chile national team and the match ended up in a 2-1 victory to Spain.
Before Iniesta’s goal, Chile player Marco Estrada was sent off with a 2nd yellow card after clipping Fernando Torres’s heels.
Spain could have done better, but they will have to beat Portugal if they are to win the World Cup.
